POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist University softball team split a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader against Rider at Gartland Field on Saturday.
The Red Foxes prevailed 6-2 in game one, and the Broncs won 3-0 in game two.
In the first game,
Haley Ahr belted two doubles to take sole possession for first place in program history, now with 54. Ahr entered the day tied with Janna Korak, who played at Marist from 2014-17, with 52.
- McKenna Manley scored the game's first run in the bottom of the first, as she came home on a fielder's choice off the bat of Samantha Rogers.
- Marist added two in the third. Sienna Kunze hit a solo homer, and McKenna Manley's sacrifice fly brought home Maia Salvo.
- Rider scored once in the third, and got within 3-2 in the fourth. Anna Sidlowski entered the game with the bases loaded, and got out of the inning with no additional runs being scored thanks to two strikeouts and a groundout.
- Back-to-back doubles by Ahr and Rogers gave Marist a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
- Kunze's second homer of the game in the fifth closed out the scoring.
- Marist finished with nine hits. Ahr, Rogers, Kunze, and Peyton Pusey had two apiece.
- Sidlowski earned the win in relief with four scoreless innings and five strikeouts. She allowed just three hits and walked no one.
- Rider had 10 hits, led by Aspen Wheeler, Maddie Luedtke, and Gabi Rodriguez with two apiece.
- Kendall Reda-Fehsal's two-run homer in the top of the fourth staked Rider to a 2-0 lead.
- Marist loaded the bases with one out in the fifth, but was unable to score.
- Reda-Fehsal's second homer of the game, a solo shot in the sixth, closed out the scoring.
- Fallyn Stoeckel went the distance for Rider and permitted just four hits. She struck out three, walked one, and threw just 77 pitches.
- Livia Wiltsie and Annabelle Geiser had two hits apiece for Marist.
- Stella Blachard went the distance in the circle for the Red Foxes with four strikeouts.
- Marist is 20-19 overall and 14-3 in the MAAC.
- Rider is 19-17 this season and 10-7 in conference games.
- Marist and Rider close out their three-game series with a single game on Sunday.
- First pitch of game one is set for noon.
