Softball Earns Pair of One-Run Wins at Quinnipiac

Blanchard Earns Game One Save, Game Two Victory

HAMDEN, Connecticut – The Marist University softball team swept a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader at Quinnipiac on Friday, as the Red Foxes won a pair of one-run games.
 
Marist prevailed 5-4 in game one and 2-1 in game two.
 
Game One Summary
  • Quinnipiac had two on in the bottom of the first, but Marist got out of the inning with no runs scored when left fielder Annabelle Geiser threw a runner out at the plate for the final out.
  • Anna Sidlowski came on in relief in the second inning, and escaped a first and second with nobody out jam without giving up a run.
  • Marist struck for five in the top of the third, all with two outs.
  • Quinnipiac battled back with two runs in the home half of the third.
  • Marist held a 5-2 lead until the bottom of the sixth, when Quinnipiac scored twice.
  • Quinnipiac got the tying run on base in the bottom of the seventh, but was unable to tie the game.
 
Game One Stats
  • Seven different Red Foxes had a hit, led by Kunze with two.
  • Sidlowski pitched 4.2 innings of relief to earn the win.
  • Blanchard got the final four outs to earn the save.
  • For Quinnipiac, Ally Hochstadter went 4-for-4 with two RBIs.
  • Jasmine Kline pitched four scoreless innings of relief for the Bobcats.
 
Game Two Summary
  • In the top of the fifth, Marist broke a scoreless tie on Ahr's two-out single, which brought home Maia Salvo.
  • Quinnipiac tied it in the bottom of the fifth on Ashley Garcia's RBI single. The Bobcats had the bases loaded with one, but Blanchard was able to hold Quinnipiac to one run in the inning.
  • In the top of the sixth, Marist scored what proved to be the game-winning run. Although Lily Roumelis was robbed on a fly ball in the left-center gap by Hochstatder, Wiltsie came in from third with the go-ahead run as Roumelis was credited with a sacrifice fly.
 
Game Two Stats
  • Ahr led Marist with two hits.
  • Blanchard went the distance in the circle. She allowed just six hits and two walks, and she struck out four.
  • Hochstadter and Ashley Garcia had two hits apiece for Quinnipiac.
  • Shannon Kendall pitched a game complete game for the Bobcats, and she allowed just five hits.
 
Notes
  • Blanchard's game one save was the first of her career.
  • Marist had five outfield assists.
    • Samantha Rogers had three outfield assists on the day, throwing runners out at second, third, and home. She has six outfield assists in the Red Foxes' last 10 games.
    • Annabelle Geiser had two outfield assists, throwing out runners at second and the plate.
  • Marist is now 11-3 in one-run games, with 10 straight victories.

  • Marist is now 23-19 overall, and 17-3 in the MAAC.
  • Quinnipiac stands at 18-15 this season, and 13-8 in conference play.
