Marist Softball Extends Winning Streak to 11

Red Foxes Score 22 Runs, Hit Eight Home Runs in Doubleheader Sweep at Manhattan

RIVERDALE, New York – The Marist University softball team earned a doubleheader sweep at Manhattan on Wednesday, as the Red Foxes extended their winning streak to 11 games.
 
In game one, Marist scored the game's final 10 runs in a 10-2 victory.  The Red Foxes then pulled away for a 12-3 triumph in game two. In addition to scoring 22 runs on the day, Marist hit eight home runs.
 
Game One Summary
  • Manhattan opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first.
  • Kaylie DeChicchis struck out the side in the bottom of the second.
  • Marist went in front with a two-run fourth. Isabella Manory brought home Livia Wiltsie with an infield single, and Samantha Rogers followed with a two-run homer that gave Marist the lead for good.
  • Wiltsie's two-run homer in the fifth put Marist in front 5-2.
  • Annabelle Geiser's RBI single brought in Maia Salvo in the sixth, which gave Marist a 6-2 lead.
  • In the seventh, Rogers' RBI single scored Sienna Kunze, and Salvo's three-run homer closed out the scoring.
 
Game One Stats
  • Wiltsie went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs. She homered and tripled.
  • Rogers and Salvo each drove in three runs and scored two.
  • Wiltsie, Rogers, and Peyton Pusey had two hits apiece as Marist finished with 10.
  • Anna Sidlowski pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless relief for her eighth win of the season.
  • Lainey Brown went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Manhattan.
 
Game Two Summary
  • After McKenna Manley started a two-out rally with a single, Pusey's home run gave Marist a 2-0 lead in the second.
  • Haley Ahr doubled to lead off the third, and Rogers' two-out homer gave Marist a 4-0 advantage.
  • Pusey's leadoff homer in the fourth gave Marist a 5-1 lead.
  • Manhattan scored two in the fifth, but Marist broke the game open with a five-run sixth, punctuated by a two-out grand slam by Lily Roumelis.
  • In the seventh, Pusey delivered a leadoff double, and Manory's two-run homer closed out the scoring.
 
Game Two Stats
  • Roumelis led the way with four RBIs, followed by Pusey and Rogers with three, and Manory with two.
  • Pusey went 4-for-5 with three RBIs, three runs scored, a double, and a stolen base.
  • Every Marist starter had at least one hit as the Red Foxes finished with 16. Manory had three, while Rogers and Roumelis had two each.
  • Stella Blanchard pitched the final 2.1 innings without allowing a run and striking out three for her 12th win.
 
Notes
  • This is the first time in program history that Marist has won at least 30 games in three straight years. The Red Foxes have won at least 30 games eight times in head coach Joe Ausanio's tenure, and 11 times in program history.
  • Pusey set the program's all-time record by appearing in her 220th career game in game two. Her two-homer game in the second game was her second of the season and third of her career. Her first career two-homer game was exactly one year ago today at Niagara.
  • Rogers has 12 RBIs in her last five games.
  • Marist's 16 hits and five home runs in game two were both season highs.
  • Marist has scored at least 10 runs in three straight games.

  • Marist is now 31-19 this season.
