No. 2 Red Foxes Take on No. 3 Sacred Heart in MAAC Semifinals

LOUDONVILLE, NY - The second-seeded Marist men's lacrosse team takes on No. 3 Sacred Heart in the MAAC Semifinals with a spot in the MAAC Championship on the line. The opening faceoff is set for a 4 p.m. start on Hickey Field on ESPN+.
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Marist Red Foxes capped off the regular season in dramatic fashion on Wednesday afternoon, earning a 15-13 road victory over the Canisius Golden Griffins to secure a share of the MAAC Co-Regular Season Championship for the first time since 2022.
  • Drew Anderson added three goals and an assist, while Steven Cain contributed two goals and two assists in a well-rounded offensive effort. 
  • Jayce Konowitz also chipped in two goals
  • Richie Metzger made 16 saves, including several key stops in the fourth quarter to preserve the lead.
HOW WE GOT HERE
  • Marist went 9-4 on the season and 7-1 in the MAAC to earn a share of the MAAC Regular season Championship
  • The Red Foxes went 2-1 against the remaining semifinal teams

MAAC ACCOLADES
  • The MAAC men's lacrosse awards were released on Tuesday. Marist featured five different players earning All-MAAC honors, with 20 student-athletes getting recognized for the All-MAAC Academic Team.
  • Michael Cassano won the MAAC Long Stick Midfielder of the Year award for the second consecutive season
  • Collin Patrick earned All-MAAC First Team honors as an attacker.
  • Sean Mullan earned All-MAAC First Team recognition as an attacker.
  • Aiden McCaffrey secured All-MAAC First Team honors as a defender.
  • Michael Cassano notched All-MAAC Second Team recognition as a long stick midfielder.
  • Richie Metzger was a unanimous selection to the MAAC All-Rookie Team as a goalie.
 
HISTORY AGAINST SACRED HEART
  • Thursday's matchup will mark the 18th matchup between the two programs
  • Marist is 7-10 all-time against Sacred Heart
  • The Red Foxes have won four of the last six meetings against the Pioneers
  • The last time the two sides faced off, Marist came away with a 14-13 victory over Sacred Heart
  • Sean Mullan led the offense with four goals and an assist
 
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
  • Sacred Heart enters Thursday's contest at 11-3 on the season and 5-3 in the MAAC

  • John Murray narrowly trails with 41 points on 31 goals and 10 assists, while Jake Carney boasts 33 goals on the campaign
