HAMDEN, Conn. – The Marist University men's tennis team earned a 5-2 victory over Quinnipiac on the road Friday evening.
Quinnipiac claimed the doubles point, winning two of three matches. Senior Nick Suhanitski and junior Thomas Bevan earned a 6-4 victory at No. 1, but the Bobcats responded with wins at No. 2 and No. 3, including a 7-6 (3) decision at No. 3.
Marist responded in singles, winning five of six matches to secure the victory. Graduate student Jose Catala led the way with a 7-6 (4), 6-4 win at No. 1. Sophomore Ian Layton followed with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 2, while freshman Alejandro Abella Fernandez rallied for a 5-7, 7-5, 6-0 win at No. 3.
Sophomore Anirudh Nallaparaju added a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4. Junior Thomas Bevan dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision at No. 5, while sophomore Gregor Heinemann closed out the match with a 2-6, 7-6 (2), 6-4 win at No. 6.
