Box Score NEW WINDSOR, N.Y. – The Marist University men's tennis team earned its fourth straight win with a 6-1 victory over Merrimack at Sportsplex New Windsor.
The Red Foxes improve to 10-5 overall and 5-0 in MAAC play.
Marist opened the match by securing the doubles point with wins on two courts. Senior Nick Suhanitski and junior Thomas Bevan earned a 6-2 victory at No. 1, while graduate student Jose Catala and sophomore Fateh Singh followed with a 6-1 win at No. 3. Sophomore Gregor Heinemann and sophomore Ian Layton led 5-4 at No. 2 before the match went unfinished.
The Red Foxes carried that momentum into singles, winning five of six matches. Catala led the way with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1, while Layton followed with a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 2.
Freshman Alejandro Abella Fernandez added a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 3, and Bevan secured a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 4. Freshman Brandon Ramos earned a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 6.
Graduate student Danté Despontin dropped a three-set match at No. 5, falling 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.
