POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist University softball team earned two extra-inning wins in a home Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader against Sacred Heart on Tuesday at Gartland Field.
Marist took the first game 4-3 in nine innings, and the second by a score of 7-6 in 10 innings.
- Livia Wiltsie's three-run homer opened the scoring in the bottom of the first. Wiltsie drove in Peyton Pusey, who had a leadoff double, and Samantha Rogers, who drew a two-out walk.
- Sam Kowalski's sacrifice fly brought home pinch-runner Natalie Aiello to get Sacred Heart on the board in the sixth.
- Sacred Heart staged a two-out rally to tie the game in the top of the seventh. Savannah Moore had an RBI double, and she scored on a fielder's choice.
- Marist loaded the bases in the eighth, but was unable to score.
- Wiltsie led off the bottom of the ninth with a single, and advanced to third following successive bunts by Isabella Manory and Sienna Kunze. She then scored the winning run on a bunt by Maia Salvo.
- Marist had nine hits, led by Wiltsie and Pusey with three apiece. Wiltsie went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
- Rogers drew four walks.
- Ava Metzger started and went the first 6.2 innings. Anna Sidlowski earned the win with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.
- Sam Kowalski threw a complete game for Sacred Heart, and she threw 169 pitches.
- Sacred Heart's Elle Leckrone led off the game with a home run.
- Marist took the lead in the bottom of the first, as Pusey reached on a single and McKenna Manley followed with a home run.
- Leckrone's RBI double in the second tied the score at two.
- Marist scored twice more in the second. Manory led off with a double, and she scored on a double by Salvo. Haley Ahr's bases-loaded walk forced home Annabelle Geiser.
- Home runs by Kowalski and Moore tied the game in the third.
- Manley's sacrifice fly scored Geiser to put Marist back in front in the fourth.
- Kowalski's second homer of the game tied the game in the fifth, and Nicole Henke's RBI single gave the Pioneers a 6-5 lead.
- Wiltsie reached on a one-out single, and she scored on a wild pitch to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth.
- The score remained 6-6 until the bottom of the 10th. Kunze walked to lead off the inning. After a sacrifice bunt by Salvo moved her to second, she scored the winning run on an error following a bunt single by Geiser.
- Pusey and Geiser had two hits apiece.
- Manley drove in three.
- Sidlowski earned the win with 4.2 innings of scoreless relief. She allowed just one hit.
- Kowalski and Leckrone each three hits and two RBIs for Sacred Heart.
- Emily Heath pitched a complete game for Sacred Heart. She threw 148 pitches.
- Marist has won four straight games, all by one run. The Red Foxes are 8-3 in one-run games, with seven straight victories.
- Sidlowski earned the win in both games. She threw seven innings of scoreless relief, and she has now won each of Marist's last three games.
- Pusey had a team-high five hits on the day.
- Manley's home run was the first of her collegiate career.
- Marist is 19-18 overall and 13-2 in MAAC play.
- Sacred Heart is 15-21 this season and 10-6 in conference games.
- Marist hosts Rider for a three-game series this weekend.
- The Red Foxes and Broncs will play a doubleheader on Saturday, followed by a single game on Sunday.
- First pitch both days is set for noon.
