POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist women's soccer team dropped a tightly contested 1-0 decision to Colgate on Thursday afternoon at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field.
Colgate scored the lone goal of the match in the ninth minute. Bianca Howitt found the back of the net at the 8:45 mark off assists from Regan Taylor and Ava McCloskey to give the Raiders the early advantage.
Marist had an early opportunity to level the match, as
Ella Bryan put shots on target in the first and fourth minutes, but Colgate goalkeeper Ella Poppinga made the saves. The Red Foxes finished the contest with eight shots, including five on goal, while earning seven corner kicks.
The Red Foxes applied more pressure in the second half, outshooting Colgate 6-3 over the final 45 minutes.
Mia Fluckiger,
Kelsey Peduto and Bryan each recorded shots on goal in the half, but Poppinga and the Raiders' defense preserved the shutout.
Bryan led Marist with three shots and three shots on goal, while
Marissa Foster added two shots.
Samantha Graf made one save in the opening half, and
Nelly Bianchi-Nagle played the final 45 minutes in goal without allowing a score.
The Red Foxes return to action on Sunday, Aug. 23, when Marist plays host to Fordham at 1 p.m. inside Tenney Stadium on ESPN+.
