POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist women's soccer team took an early lead but fell to Fordham, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field.
The Red Foxes struck first in the fourth minute. Ella Bryan set up Marissa Foster, who found the back of the net at the 3:21 mark to give Marist an early 1-0 advantage.
Marist controlled much of the first half offensively, outshooting Fordham, 10-6, and earning five corner kicks. Mia Katchouni led the Red Foxes with four shots and had multiple scoring opportunities, including an attempt that struck the woodwork in the 29th minute.
The Rams found the equalizer in the 58th minute, as Liv Johnsen scored off an assist from Salma Simonin.
Fordham continued to apply pressure in the second half and took the lead with just over seven minutes remaining when Ava Giudice scored in the 83rd minute.
Nelly Bianchi-Nagle entered in goal for the second half and made three saves. Samantha Graf recorded one save during the opening 45 minutes.
Marist finished the match with eight corner kicks and five shots on goal. Foster scored her first goal of the season, while Bryan recorded the assist.
The Red Foxes will be back in action on Thursday, Aug. 27, when Marist plays host to Holy Cross. The contest is set to begin at 8 p.m. on ESPN+.
