EASTON, Pennsylvania – Marist Volleyball opened its season at the Maroon and White Classic, hosted by Lafayette. On day one, the Red Foxes went 0-2, falling to Lafayette in four sets and Delaware in straight sets.
The Red Foxes came out battling against the Leopards but fell to Lafayette in four sets (21-25, 25-19, 21-25, 28-30). Marist is now 0-1 to start the season.
Set one was back-and-forth, with both teams trading points until the very end before Lafayette ultimately came out on top. Marist responded with an impressive second-set performance, recording 14 kills with just two errors to even the match at one set apiece.
Though the Red Foxes dropped the final two frames, they pushed the Leopards to the limit in the fourth set, which featured nine ties and six lead changes. Marist battled back to tie the score at 28-28 before Lafayette secured the final two points to win the set, 30-28.
Top Performers
- Mallory Reck led Marist with 11.5 points, 10 kills, and 17 digs.
- Caelyn Dumas recorded 7.0 points, five kills, and a team-high 37 assists.
- Sara Dasic contributed nine kills and nine digs.
In their second match of the day, Marist fell to Delaware in straight sets (20-25, 21-25, 25-27), concluding day one of the Maroon and White Classic.
The Red Foxes dropped the first two sets to Delaware but pushed back in set three before losing in straight sets. Set three saw 11 ties and three lead changes with Marist taking Delaware to 25-25 before dropping the set 25-27.
Mallory Reck once again led the offense with 10 kills and one assist.
Sarah Bumstead followed with seven kills while adding 1.5 blocks. On defense,
Cecilia "CC" Potter-Pessoa led the team with eight digs, while
Claudia Kasperski and
Sara Dasic followed with six digs apiece.
The Red Foxes return to action tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. against Montana State, wrapping up their weekend at the Maroon and White Classic.
