EASTON, Pennsylvania – Marist Volleyball concluded its weekend at the Maroon and White Classic with a matchup against Montana State on Sunday morning. The Red Foxes fell to the Bobcats in five sets (17-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-19, 12-15). Marist moves to 0-3 to start the season.
After dropping the opening two sets,
Sarah Bumstead led the way in the third set with seven kills to propel the offense to victory. Cecilia Potter-Pessoa anchored the defense with nine digs in the set.
The Red Foxes posted a .412 hitting percentage and recorded 16 kills in the fourth set, earning a victory and forcing a decisive fifth set.
Mallory Reck led the offense with six kills, while
Caelyn Dumas added 13 assists. Potter-Pessoa once again paced the defense with four digs. Marist would end up falling in the fifth set as Montana State secured the 3-2 match victory.
Caelyn Dumas earned All-Tournament Team honors after totaling 13 kills, 112 assists, 30 digs, and three blocks over the weekend. Against Montana State, she recorded a career-high 52 assists across five sets.
Top Performances:
- Sarah Bumstead led the offense with 17 kills and 18.5 points while adding four digs.
- Mallory Reck followed with 15 kills and contributed eight digs defensively.
- Cecilia Potter-Pessoa led the defensive effort with 20 digs across five sets.
- The Red Foxes head west to Denver, Colorado, for the Denver Invitational from September 3-5.
- They will face the University of Idaho, SIUE, and the University of Denver.
