POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist University men's tennis team opened its fall slate with a 7-0 victory over Union on Thursday evening at the Marist Tennis Pavilion. The win marks Andrew Sendek's first as Director of Tennis for the Red Foxes.
Marist took the doubles point with victories at all three positions. Senior Thomas Bevan and junior Ethan Hirons opened with a 6-1 win at No. 1, while sophomore Alejandro Abella Fernandez and sophomore Ivaylo Simeonov followed with a 7-5 victory at No. 2. Junior Fateh Singh and junior Gregor Heinemann completed the sweep with a 6-0 win at No. 3.
Marist carried its momentum into singles play, winning all six matches. Abella Fernandez earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 1, while Hirons followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2. Simeonov added a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 3 before Bevan, Heinemann and Singh each earned straight-set victories at Nos. 4-6, respectively.
