Volleyball Sweeps Day One at the Bryant Invitational

The Red Foxes Take Down Bryant and Fordham

SMITHFIELD, Rhode Island – Marist Volleyball opened play at the Bryant Invitational on Friday with a pair of victories. The Red Foxes began the day with a four-set win over Bryant (25-20, 21-25, 25-14, 25-17) before defeating Fordham in four sets as well (25-22, 25-14, 22-25, 25-21). With the two victories, Marist improved to 3-6 overall this season.
 
GAME ONE: BRYANT
The Red Foxes took an early lead in the match by claiming the opening set. Mallory Reck paced the offense with seven kills in the frame, while Caelyn Dumas contributed on both sides of the ball with 11 assists and five digs. Bryant responded by winning the second set to even the match at one set apiece.
 
Marist quickly halted the Bulldogs' momentum by taking the third set and regaining the lead. The offense was spread throughout the lineup, as Taylor Miller and Sarah Bumstead each recorded two kills, while Reck added three more. Defensively, Sara Dasic collected five digs, and Dumas added six.
 
The Red Foxes stayed hot in the fourth set to secure the victory. Reck once again led the way with five kills, while Miller added three. Dumas recorded six assists and three digs in the set to help guide Marist to the four-set win.
 
Top Performances:
  • Mallory Reck was outstanding with a team-high 20 kills while adding nine digs and 23 total points.
  • Caelyn Dumas totaled 28 assists and a team-leading 20 digs.
  • Taylor Miller tallied nine kills and four digs en route to the Marist victory.
 
GAME TWO: FORDHAM
The Red Foxes carried their momentum from the opener into their matchup with Fordham. Marist jumped out to an early lead in the first set and never looked back, earning a 25-22 victory. Trinity Woods had five kills and Molly Malone recorded four to lead the offense, while Cecilia Potter-Pessoa contributed three digs on defense. The Red Foxes remained in control in the second set. Sarah Bumstead led the way with six kills, while Caelyn Dumas once again contributed on both sides of the ball with eight assists and four digs.

After a strong start, Marist battled hard but dropped the third set, 25-22. The Red Foxes did not allow the Rams to capitalize on the momentum, responding with a fourth-set victory to clinch the match, 3-1. In the final frame, Mallory Reck tallied six kills, while Potter-Pessoa added eight more digs to help secure the win.
 
Top Performances:
  • Mallory Reck continued to lead the way with 15 kills, six digs, and 16 points.
  • Sarah Bumstead racked up 12 kills
  • Trinity Woods tallied another 14 kills for the Red Foxes.
  • Cecilia Potter-Pessoa led the team with 17 digs in the game.

The Red Foxes return to action for their final match of the weekend on Saturday when they face Bryant at 10 a.m.
