POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist University men's and women's tennis teams are set to compete at the Army Invite this weekend. The two-day event begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday for both teams.

The Red Foxes will each face St. Bonaventure and Army West Point, with the men also taking on NJIT and the women facing FDU.
 

LAST TIME OUT: Men

• The men's tennis team opened its fall slate with a 7-0 victory over Union on Thursday evening at the Marist Tennis Pavilion. The win marked Andrew Sendek's first as Director of Tennis for the Red Foxes.
• Marist took the doubles point with victories at all three positions. Senior Thomas Bevan and junior Ethan Hirons opened with a 6-1 win at No. 1, while sophomore Alejandro Abella Fernandez and sophomore Ivaylo Simeonov followed with a 7-5 victory at No. 2.
• Junior Fateh Singh and junior Gregor Heinemann completed the sweep with a 6-0 win at No. 3.
• Marist carried its momentum into singles play, winning all six matches. Abella Fernandez earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 1, while Hirons followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2. Simeonov added a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 3 before Bevan, Heinemann and Singh each earned straight-set victories at Nos. 4-6, respectively.

LAST TIME OUT: Women

• The women's tennis team went toe-to-toe with Patriot League and Big East competition at the Lehigh Invite this past weekend, picking up several statement wins across two days of competition.
• Senior Caterina Assi led the way for the Red Foxes with six victories across singles and doubles play, while she and junior Ella Lindsey each went undefeated in singles, posting 3-0 records against all three opponents.
• Marist opened the weekend in dominant fashion in singles against Lafayette, winning six of seven matches. Assi got things started with a 6-4, 7-5 win, while junior Viktoria Lorentzon and Lindsey cruised in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-0, respectively. Junior Lola Ungerman battled through a second-set tiebreaker to close out her match, 6-3, 7-6(7), and sophomore Yasmin Asnis and sophomore Tessa Wachtel added straight-set victories of their own.
• Later that day, Marist split its doubles matches with Seton Hall, with Assi and Asnis teaming up for a 6-4 win over the Pirates' Sereda/Segui pairing.
• Marist closed out day one in singles against Lehigh, where Assi turned in the highlight of the tournament, rallying from a first-set loss to force and win a match tiebreak, 6-3, 0-6, 10-4. Lindsey also picked up a win against the Mountain Hawks, 7-5, 6-4.
• Day two began with Marist sweeping all three doubles matches against Lehigh. The pairings of Wachtel/Lorentzon (7-5), Ungerman/Asnis (6-2), and Assi/senior Jane Wright (6-4) all came through with victories.
• In singles against Seton Hall, Assi extended her unbeaten weekend with an 8-5 win, while Asnis fought off a Pirates rally to escape with an 8-7(4) tiebreak victory, and Lindsey rounded out the Red Foxes' wins, 8-2.
• Marist wrapped up the tournament in doubles against Lafayette, taking two of three matches behind wins from Ungerman/Asnis (6-2) and Assi/Lindsey (6-2).
