Bisnett-Cobb Breaks More School Records

February 5, 2001 -- Freshman Eli Bisnett-Cobb (Ballston Spa, NY) broke his own school record in the 55-meter high hurdles and became the first hurdler in school history to break the 8.00 second barrier as the Marist College mens track team competed at the Class of 32 Invitational at Colgate University on Saturday.

Bisnett-Cobb, who never ran indoor track in high school, has now lowered the school record in the 55-meter hurdles three times this season. After running a qualifying round time of 8.10 to advance to the finals, Bisnett-Cobb finished fifth in a tightly contested photo finish in the finals and was timed in 7.99 seconds. The time bettered his previous school record of 8.06 seconds, set at Manhattan College in December.

Bisnett-Cobb also placed seventh in the high jump with a leap of 6-3.25 inches. And, the freshman pitched in for an illness-depleted squad with a strong 400-meter leg in the 1,600-meter relay.

Other highlights for the meet included freshman Adam Waterbury (Lyman Hall, CT) in the shot put. Competing for the first time collegiately with the 16-pound shot, Waterbury advanced to the finals and placed sixth with a throw of 43-7.25 inches, just six inches off the school record in that event.

Also, sophomore Brando Valencia (East Hampton, CT) eclipsed the 17-minute barrier for the first time in the 5,000-meter run, placing 11th in 16:55.94.

A flu bug ravaged the middle distance and long distance team members. Several runners did not travel to compete at the meet, and several others competed at less than full strength.
