Marist Women's Tennis Competes at Bucknell Invitational

Lewisburg, PA--- The Marist College women's tennis team competed in the Bucknell University Invitational this past weekend, competing with seven other schools. In addition to Bucknell and Marist, Georgetown, Loyola, St. Joseph's, Villanova, University of Pittsburg, and Bloomsburg participated.

In the flight "A" singles Amanda Doetsch was defeated by Georgetown's Lydia Bartell, 6-4, 6-4. Doetsch advanced to the southwest bracket to defeat Julie Darne of Villanova University, 8-4. Diana Perachio lost to Carolyn Pilkington of Loyola, 4-6, 6-2 (4), but would remain victorious in her following three matches. Perachio defeated Miranda Campbell of Bloomsburg, 8-1, Darne 9-7, and Nada Curcic of Bucknell 9-7.

In the flight "B" singles Kristy Salloum faced Sam Berthod of Bucknell, losing 6-0, 7-5. Salloum would then face Pilav Glodzick from St. Joseph's and would be defeated 8-3. Her next match would be against her teammate, Kara Bliss, with Bliss coming out with the win, 8-5.

The "C" flight would begin with Jennifer Edwards losing to Laura Pequila of the University of Pittsburg, 6-0, 6-1. Edwards would be victorious in her next match against Gina Turturiello of Loyola, 9-9 (7). In the west bracket, Edwards was defeated by Loyola's Alison Popp, 8-4. Edwards would then be the winner of the southwest bracket, as she beat Kristen Pugno of Bucknell, 8-3. Also competing in the "C" flight was Courtney McGeever, who defeated Michelle Savage of St. Joseph's, 6-1, 7-5. McGeever would next face Jen Zick of Villanova, being defeated, 6-2, 6-3. McGeever's next faced Sydnie Zilliq from Pittsburg, losing 9-7.

Brianne Douglass competed in the "D" flight, first facing Julie McCulley of Bloomsburg, and losing, 6-1, 6-3. Douglass' first victory came against Chrissy Hill of Bucknell, 8-4. Her final two matches both ended in defeat, as Douglass lost to Colleen Ruane of Loyola, 8-1, and to Chelsea Kammerer, 8-1.

The Red Foxes will next compete against Rider University on Sunday, September 30, at Marist College at 12 noon.
