Staten Island, NY-The Marist College women's tennis team defeated Wagner this afternoon, 6-1. The Red Foxes are 3-0 for the season, 1-0 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).
In doubles action, the Red Foxes Amanda Doetsch (Freehold, NJ) and Diana Perachio (Newtown, Conn.) defeated Jenny Ludigen and Gina Gilardo, 8-1. Freshmen Yana Tikhonko (Brooklyn, NY) and Yana Krugly (Staten Island, NY) shutout Wagner's pair, Jen Hamilton and Jessica Klett, 8-0. Marist pair, Courtney McGeever (Wickliffe, OH) and Tara Dolan (Hopewell Junction, NY) lost their match to Lisha Tejeda and Jana Roberts, 6-8.
In singles play, Marist's Perachio won her match by defeating Ludigen, 6-0, 6-2. Doetsch defeated Wagner's Gilardo, 6-0, 6-1. After winning in doubles, Krugly won her singles match against Klett, 6-2, 6-0. Tikhonko defeated Roberts in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. In another straight set win, McGeever defeated Tejeda, 6-0, 7-5. Wagner's Hamilton defeated freshman Dolan, 7-6, 5-7 (7-5).
The Red Foxes return to action this weekend when they travel to Cambridge, Mass. for the ITA Rolex Tournament hosted by Harvard on Friday, October 25th, Saturday, October 26th, and Sunday, October 27th. This tournament will conclude the fall season for the women's tennis team.
