Poughkeepsie, NY - Marist College defensive end Charles Fowler (Shelton, CT) was named the Don Hanson Football Gazette Co-National Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced this morning. Fowler becomes the second Red Fox this year to win a national weekly honor, and it comes just a day after he was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Football League, Defensive Player of the Week,.
A Shelton High School graduate, Fowler played a large role in the Red Foxes knocking off Fairfield University, Saturday, October 5th. With the Stags leading 7-0, Fowler intercepted a third down pass and returned it 10 yards for a touchdown, bringing the Red Foxes even at 7-7. A senior, the interception was the first of his career, and paced Marist to a 33-29 victory in the game.

He recorded three tackles for a loss of yardage, pushing back the Stags six yards. One of those tackles for loss was a sack of the same quarterback that he picked off to even the score. Along with his defensive efforts, Fowler also punted the ball seven times for 248 yards.
The Red Foxes improved to 4-1 on the year, and 2-1 in MAAC play with the win over Fairfield, moving up to 4th in the most recent Sports Network Mid-Major I-AA Poll, equaling their highest rank ever.
