Albany, NY---The Marist College women's tennis team defeated the University of Albany, 5-2, in a non-conference match held this afternoon in Albany, NY. The Red Foxes improve to 11-3 overall and remain at 6-1 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play.
The first singles victory was at number three singles as Courtney McGeever (Wickliffe, OH) defeated Alex Berly, 1-0, and then by default. Jennifer Edwards (Baldwinsville, NY) captured the win at number four singles over Krista Barbiaz, 6-0, 6-2. At number five singles Kara Bliss (Burnt Hills, NY) was victorious against Stacy Kaminsky, 6-4, 6-1. Kathryn Szymanski (Scituate, MA) topped Reeba Miller at number six singles, 7-5, 6-1.
The Red Foxes swept all three doubles matches against the Great Danes, earning the doubles point. The number one doubles team of Amanda Doetsch (Freehold, NJ) and Diana Perachio (Newtown, CT) beat Violetta Petijevic and Marisa Berly, 8-5. The number two doubles twosome of Szymanski and Bliss won easily over Alex Berly and Erin Morrison, 8-1. At number three doubles the duo of Edwards and McGeever had the win against Barbiaz and Lisa Fund, 8-3.
The Red Foxes return to the courts this Saturday, April 13th, as they travel to Riverdale, NY, to take on MAAC foe Manhattan College. The action is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
