Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist College Red Foxes dropped a softball doubleheader to St. John's, losing 3-0 and 8-0 earlier today at the Gartland Commons Athletic Fields.
In the first game, Red Storm pitcher Meghan Allman (18-20) threw her third no-hitter of the season, allowing only five Red Fox base runners in the game.
The game was scoreless until the top of the sixth inning when Alesha Argeras singled home Kelly Houghton to give St. John's a 1-0 advantage. Houghton then hit a two run homer off freshman pitcher Nichole Rawson (Palmdale, CA) (5-5) to give the Red Storm a 3-0 advantage in the seventh inning.
Game two saw more of the same from Allman, as she allowed only a fourth inning single to junior Kathleen McEvily (White Plains, NY).
The Red Storm scored twice in the fourth and then added six more runs, four earned in the fifth to earn an 8-0 victory in five innings. Houghton went 3-3 with a homerun and three RBI's for St. John's. Freshman pitcher Danielle Blake (Doylestown, PA) (2-8) was on the losing end for Marist.
The two losses leaves Marist at 8-19-1 and 2-4 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, while St. John's improves to 19-23-1 and 5-7 in the Big East.
The Red Foxes will return to action tomorrow, Wednesday, April 17th at 3:00 PM with a doubleheader at Lehigh. The next home game will be this Sunday, April 21st at 1:00 PM against Stony Brook.
