Loudonville, NY---The Marist College women's lacrosse team (5-7, 3-2 MAAC) defeated Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opponent, Siena College, 14-2 earlier this afternoon. The Red Foxes held a 5-1 lead over the host Saints at the half, and continued to outscore Siena 9-1 in the second half to easily secure the win.
Leading the strong Marist offense on the afternoon was sophomore Maria Stehn (Massapequa, NY), scoring four goals. Freshman Brandi Petersen (Syracuse, NY) tallied three goals, while junior Kelly Sullivan (Lindenhurst, NY) registered three goals and one assist. Rounding out the scoring for the Red Foxes were freshmen Lauren Serge (Albany, NY) and Lauren Sherman (Media, PA), who each had two points with a combination of one goal and one assist. Freshman Christine Connell (Westbury, NY) scored one goal and added two assists, and sophomore Maria Reoch (Shirley, NY) scored one goal.
In the net, goalkeeper Heather Ripp (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY) led in saves 13-12. In addition, the Red Foxes outshot the Saints 26-16, and led in ground balls 25-24. Marist also held a lead in draw controls 7-5.
The Red Foxes return to action on Saturday, April 20th, as they host the 2001 defending MAAC League Champion, Fairfield University. The contest is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. on Leonidoff Field.
