Red Fox Women's Lacrosse Falls to Vermont, 10-8

Poughkeepsie, NY---The Marist College women's lacrosse team was defeated 10-8, by the University of Vermont, in a non-league contest on Leonidoff Field. The Red Foxes fall to 5-10 overall on the season, while the Catamounts improve to 7-7 for the year. Vermont held a 4-3 lead at the half, and then went on a two goal scoring run in the final two minutes of regulation to secure the win.

Marist was led in scoring by Maria Stehn (Massapequa, NY), Lauren Sherman (Media, PA), and Brandi Petersen (Syracuse, NY) who each registered two goals in the contest. In addition, Kelly Sullivan (Lindenhurst, NY) scored one goal and added three assists, with Lauren Serge (Albany, NY) tallying one goal in the Red Fox effort.

Vermont's top scorers on the afternoon were Molly Sheehan and Vanessa Cox, contributing two goals apiece. In addition, Courtney Keefe added one goal and four assists for the visiting Catamounts.

In the net Vermont's Kate McBride led in saves 16-10. The Red Foxes led in shots on goal 35-25, and in ground balls 19-15.

The Red Foxes have completed their regular season, and now await the result of this evening's league game between Niagara and Canisius, which will determine if Marist makes it to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Tournament. The seedings will become available on Monday, April 29th, after 5:00 p.m. This year's tournament will be hosted by Fairfield University on May 4th-5th, in Fairfield, CT.
