Syracuse, NY---The Marist College women's lacrosse team (2-6, 0-1) was defeated by LeMoyne College, 13-12 in double overtime, in the Red Foxes' first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game of the season.
The Red Foxes were in command at the half, holding a 7-6 lead over the host Dolphins, and continued the scoring momentum extending the lead to 11-6 in the first ten minutes of the second half. LeMoyne then responded with five unanswered goals to tie the game at 11 at the end of regulation.
In the first overtime period the Red Foxes regained the lead, 12-11, with a goal by Alison Reilley (West Genesee, NY) with 1:24 remaining. The Dolphins' Caitlin Lowie then scored the tying goal with 50 seconds left, sending the contest into a second overtime. LeMoyne then secured the victory 13-12, 14 seconds into the second overtime.
Leading the Red Fox scoring charge on the afternoon was Kelly Sullivan (Lindenhurst, NY), who registered three goals. Brandi Petersen (Syracuse, NY) had two goals, and Maria Stehn (Massapequa, NY) and Lauren Sherman (Media, PA) each tallied three points apiece, with a combination of two goals and one assist. In addition, Maria Reoch (Shirley, NY) had four points in the game, with one goal and three assists.
In the net, goalkeeper Heather Ripp (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY) led in saves over Brandy Payne, 13-6. LeMoyne led in shots 27-24, and in ground balls 21-13.
The Red Foxes return to action on Wednesday, April 10th, at the host MAAC foe Manhattan College on Leonidoff Field. The game is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
