Peterson Named MAAC Women's Lacrosse Rookie Of The Year

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Marist College freshman lacrosse player Brandi Peterson (Syracuse, NY) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year, it was announced this evening at the pre-tournament banquet. Peterson was also named to the inaugural All-MAAC Second Team.

Peterson was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week on two occasions this season and is the Red Foxes top point scorer this year. On the year the rookie tallied 33 total points, with 28 of them coming on her own scored goals, while assisting on five other Red Fox goals.

Sophomore Lauren O'Keefe (West Chester, PA) was the lone Marist player selected to the All-MAAC First Team, taking a spot in the defensive line-up. O'Keefe played and started in 14 games for Marist on the year, with 20 groundballs and 11 draw controls.

Peterson was joined on the All-MAAC Second Team by sophomore Katie Tutak (North Tanowanda, NY). Tutak, a midfielder for the Red Foxes, played in all 15 games for Marist on the year. She scored six goals and added an assist while controlling 13 draws and picking up 25 groundballs.

Marist finished the season at 3-3 in the MAAC, tying for third place in the league. The Red Foxes earned the number four seed after a tiebreaker made Manhattan the third seed and eliminated Niagara from the post-season. The Red Foxes will play top-seed and tournament host Fairfield in a 2:00 pm semifinal game on Friday, May 3rd. The MAAC Tournament Championship Game will be played at noon on Saturday, May 4th.
