Fairfield, CT- Top seeded Fairfield (9-5, 6-0 MAAC) advances to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) championship game after defeating fourth seeded Marist College (5-10, 3-3 MAAC) 15-2 at University Field.
The Stags went on an 8-0 scoring run in the beginning of the first game until sophomore Suzanne Gmoser (Dix Hills, NY) put the Red Foxes on the board with 9:05 remaining in the first half, with an assist from freshman Lauren Serge (Albany, NY). The remaining Marist goal was scored by junior Kelly Sullivan (Lindenhurst, NY), with 1:23 left in regulation.
Marist freshman goalie Heather Ripp (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY) made 18 saves on 32 Stag shots, while Stag freshman goaltender Monica Janowitz made nine saves on 15 Marist shots.
Fairfield University and Le Moyne College will play tomorrow for the 2002 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship title at 12:00 p.m. in Fairfield, Connecticut at Fairfield University.
