San Diego, CA-- The Marist College football team dropped its fourth straight contest, falling 47-0 to non-conference foe University of San Diego, Saturday night in San Diego, CA. The Red Foxes fall to 3-5 overall, while the Toreros improve to 6-2.
Senior Alfredo Riullano had his second 100-yard rushing night of the season, as he carried the ball 19 times for 103 yards. All 19 carries of Riullano's on the night were for positive yardage. Guy Smith made three catches for the Red Foxes offense, bringing his season total to 49, passing Dan DelPrete's 1990 school record of 48 receptions in a single-season.
San Diego, of the Pioneer Football League, scored its first touchdown with 5:27 left in the first quarter as Adam Hannula caught his first of three touchdown passes from Eric Rasmussen. Adam Williams added a 37 yard field goal with 1:50 left in the first quarter, making the score 10-0.
The second quarter scoring began with a six-yard run by Evan Harney. On the ensuing kickoff, Brad Rowe fumbles, setting up the second TD from Rasmussen to Hannula, 15 seconds later at 10"30. Hannula caught his third touchdown of the game with 3:55 left in the first half, an 80-yard strike. Rasmussen finished the night 18-27 for 348 yards and three touchdowns. Hannula had seven catches for 209, while Harney, who also scored three times, had 229 yards on 25 carries. Harney scored twice more in the third quarter, around another Williams field goal, this time from 46 yards, before the Red Foxes shutout the host in the final stanza.
John Healy led the Red Foxes with seven tackles, inlcuding 2.5 tackles for loss and a quarterback sack. Payton Rogers had seven tackles, as did rookie Patrick Smith, including a sack, bringing his season total to 9.5 quarterback sacks.
Marist will have a bye the first weekend of November, before hosting Duquesne, November 8th and closing out the season November 15th against Central Connecticut State.
