Men's Lacrosse Drops 19-9 Decision To St. Joseph's

Philadelphia, PA - The Marist College men's lacrosse team dropped their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opener to St. Joseph's, falling 19-9 on Saturday at Finnesey Field. The Red Foxes fall to 0-5, with a 0-1 record in MAAC play. St. Joseph's improves to 3-4, and remain perfect in the conference with a 3-0 record.

The Hawks took a 3-0 lead in the first quarter, before Marist answered with five unanswered goals to take a 5-3 lead in the second. Chris Spay added a goal for St. Joseph's to make the score 5-4 at the half.

St. Joseph's came out firing in the second half, scoring 11 unanswered goals before Brian Diele (Stewart Manor, NY) put the Red Foxes on the board with 10:27 to play in the game off an assist by Billy Duerr (Manasquan, NJ). Duerr would add another goal to make it 15-7, then the Hawks took over by adding four more goals to increase the lead to 12. Duerr and Diele netted the final two goals for the Red Foxes in the contest.

Josh Ben-Eliyahu (East Setauket, NY) led Marist with three goals, while Diele and Duerr each had two for the Red Foxes. Duerr also added two assists.

Chris Spay led St. Joseph's with five goals and an assist, while Alex Heidenberger also tallied five on the day.

The Red Foxes return to action on Wednesday, March 19th, when they travel to Fairfield, CT for a non-conference game with Sacred Heart at 3:00 p.m.
