Philadelphia, Pa. - Sophomore Jen Bonini scored four goals and senior captain Jaime Connahan notched two goals and three assists to lead the Dragons 18-6 over the Marist College Red Foxes on Sunday, March 23. Drexel improves to 3-2, while the Red Foxes fall to 2-3 on the season.
Drexel dominated the first half, scoring twelve goals to Marist's three. Colleen Rocks led off the scoring for Drexel, netting the first goal, unassisted, just one minute into the game. The Dragons would see two more goals from Caterina Carafides and Connahan before Marist's Brandi Peterson (Syracuse, NY) tallied the Red Foxes' first goal at 23:52. Drexel answered with four straight goals by Carafides, Laurie Bean, Rand and Bonini to make the score 9-1 at 17:38. The Red Foxes would score two more before the half was up, but further tallies from Bonini and Rocks would increase DU's lead to nine at the half-way mark.
Chrissy Sheehan opened up the second half, scoring her first of three second-half goals unassisted at 28:26. Sheehan would score again just three minutes later, followed by a goal from Rand to make the running game 16-3. The last ten minutes of the game proved to be lucky for the Red Foxes, with goals from Lauren Sherman (Media, PA), Maria Stehn (Massapequa, NY) and Lauren Serge (Albany, NY) increasing their score to six, but it was too late, as the Dragons took the game 18-6.
The Red Foxes return to action Wednesday, March 26th, when they host the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Leonidoff Field.
