Women's Lacrosse Victorious In Season Opener, Defeats Albany 14-8

Troy, NY-The Marist College women's lacrosse team defeated the Albany Great Danes, 14-8, this afternoon in a strong performance to open the season. The Red Foxes have won their season opener for the second straight year.

Sophomore attacker Brandi Petersen (Syracuse, NY) picked up where she left off last season, scoring four goals for the Red Foxes. Petersen also recorded two assists. After sitting out most of last season with an injury, senior Molly Hanley (Simsbury, Conn.) netted two goals and assisted on four others.

The Red Foxes led at the half 6-5, before coming out in the second and adding eight more.

Maria Stehn (Massapequa, NY), and Maria Reoch (Shirley, NY) each had two goals and an assist, while Lauren Sherman (Media, PA), Kelly Sullivan (Lindenhurst, NJ), Lauren Serge (Albany, NY), and Francesca DiLorenzo (Nyack, NY) each netted a goal for the Red Foxes.

Sophomore goalkeeper, Heather Ripp (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY) recorded ten saves for Marist.

The Red Foxes return to action Monday, March 10th when they travel to Worcester, MA to take on Holy Cross at 4:00 p.m. Marist opens its season at home on Wednesday, March 12th, at 3:00 p.m. against Central Connecticut.
