Providence, RI - The Marist College water polo team finished in eighth place out of ten teams at the CWPA Northern Division Championships on Sunday. The Red Foxes defeated Connecticut College, 6-5, before falling to St. Francis (NY), 9-6. Marist is now 5-15 on the season, and set a new school record for wins in a single season.
In the win over Connecticut College, the Red Foxes were down 4-3 heading into the fourth quarter, but rallied from behind for the win.
Jennifer Gelsomino (Harrison, NY) and Alyson Fiorillo (Pottsville, PA) each scored twice, while Elizabeth Sovern (Sandy Hook, CT) and Joelle Evanousky (Barnesville, PA) added a goal apiece.
Against St. Francis (NY), Marist fell behind 5-3 and was unable to mount a comeback as the Terriers held on for the victory.
Fiorillo led Marist with three goals, while Evanousky had two, and Ashley Woerner (Hinsdale, IL) added the other.
The Red Foxes return to action on Friday, April 25th, when they travel to Cambridge, MA to compete in the CWPA Championships at Harvard University. The tournament runs through Sunday, April 27th.
