Worcester, MA - The Marist College men's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference game with Holy Cross, falling 12-6 at the Hart Center Astroturf this evening. The Red Foxes are now 2-10 on the season, while the Crusaders have won three straight to improve to 3-8.
Marist had a 4-2 lead with 11:34 to play in the second quarter, before Holy Cross scored five unanswered goals to make it 7-4 with 5:20 to play in the third quarter.
Andrew Walsh (Liverpool, NY) scored his third goal of the game with 3:38 to play in the third, but the Crusaders went on another run, scoring the next four goals to increase the lead to 11-5 with 5:23 left in regulation.
Walsh scored again with 2:37 left in the game, but was not enough as Holy Cross held on for the win.
Walsh led Marist with four goals, while Pat Van Horne (Liverpool, NY) and Brian Diele (Stewart Manor, NY) each had a goal and an assist. Justin Casano (Franklin Square, NY) and Pat Scully (Longmeadow, MA) also tallied assists in the contest. Billy Dziedzic (Southington, CT) played well defensively, recording eight ground balls. Bobby Gross (Huntington, NY) made 15 saves and played all 60 minutes in goal.
Billy Klotz led the Crusaders with four goals, while John O'Sullivan had three goals and one assist. Brian Hodgdon collected 13 saves for Holy Cross.
Marist was outshot 37-30, and edged in ground balls 34-29.
The Red Foxes return to action on Saturday, April 19th, when they host Manhattan in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Lacrosse League game, beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Leonidoff Field.
