Women's Lacrosse Defeats Conference Rival Siena, 14-5

Poughkeepsie, NY-The Marist College women's lacrosse team defeated conference rival Siena, 14-5 this afternoon on Leonidoff Field. The Red Foxes improve to 5-7 overall and 2-2 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play. The Saints fall to 3-8 on the season and 1-2 in league action.

Marist found itself down 3-1 in the first half when the Saints Dana Sherrer scored two of her three goals, along with Caitlin Doherty in the first ten minutes. The Red Foxes went on to register eight unanswered goals to lead 9-3 at the half.

Leading Marist's offense was junior Maria Stehn (Massapequa, NY) who scored six goals for the Red Foxes. Brandi Petersen (Syracuse, NY) netted three, while also recording two assists for a five-point day. Other scorers for Marist were Francesca DiLorenzo (Nyack, NY) with two goals, Lauren O'Keefe (West Chester, PA) and Kelly Sullivan (Lindenhurst, NJ) and Katie Tutak (North Tonawanda, NY) each had one goal, while Lauren Serge (Albany, NY) recorded three assists, while Tutak also had one.

Senior goalkeeper, Mellanie Nai (Suffield, Conn.) made six saves for the Red Foxes, while the Saints Mary-Elizabeth Dupelle, made 17 in 60 minutes of play.

The Red Foxes outshot Siena 31-16, while also taking advantage in ground balls 33-27. The Saints edged Marist out in draw controls, 12-11.

The Red Foxes return to action Wednesday, April 23rd, when they travel to Riverdale, NY to take on conference foe Manhattan at 3:30 p.m.
