Women's Lacrosse Defeats Manhattan 14-10

Poughkeepsie, NY-The Marist College women's lacrosse team defeated Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) rival Manhattan, 14-10, this afternoon on Leonidoff Field. The victory helped the Red Foxes clinch a berth in the MAAC Championships held next week. The Red Foxes improve to 6-7 overall and 3-2 in league action.

Marist found themselves down 6-4 with seven minutes remaining in the first half, before scoring four unanswered goals. Kelly Sullivan (Lindenhurst, NJ) registered the go-ahead goal at 4:09 left. The Red Foxes never lost the lead for the remainder of the game.

Junior Maria Stehn (Massapequa, NY) led the Red Fox offense with three goals, while also recording an assist. Sullivan, Lauren Sherman (Media, PA), Molly Hanley (Simsbury, Conn.), Brandi Petersen (Syracuse, NY), and Katie Tutak (North Tonawanda, NY) each scored two goals, while Lauren Serge (Albany, NY) netted one as well.

For the Jaspers, Mary Dudek and Jamie Carter each had three goals, while Nora Jacquette recorded two assists.

Mellanie Nai (Suffield, Conn.) made 13 saves for the Red Foxes, while Manhattan's Israpon Pananon made nine in 60 minutes of action.

The Red Foxes return to action Saturday, April 26th, when they travel to take on conference opponent Fairfield at 1:00 p.m.
