Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist College women's lacrosse team ended the regular season on a positive note, defeating non-conference opponent Central Connecticut State, 16-7, on Senior Day this afternoon on Leonidoff Field. The Red Foxes improve to 7-8 on the year, while the Blue Devils fall to 4-9.
Marist jumped out to an early 4-0 lead with 21:46 to play in the first half on goals by Molly Hanley (Simsbury, CT) and Lauren Serge (Albany, NY), followed by a pair from Brandi Petersen (Syracuse, NY). Tracey Uellendahl ended the Red Fox run with a Blue Devil goal to make it 4-1 with 19:03 to play in the half.
With Marist leading 7-3 at the 11:29 mark in the first half, Central Connecticut State went on to score four unanswered goals, two of them coming from Uellendahl to tie the game at the half, 7-7.
The Red Foxes pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Blue Devils 9-0 to seal the win.
Petersen led Marist with three goals and two assists, while Kelly Sullivan (Lindenhurst, NJ) tallied three goals and one assist in her last regular season game as a Red Fox. Maria Stehn (Massapequa, NY) also recorded a hat trick in the contest. Liz Hanley (Simsbury, CT) added two goals and one assist.
Uellendahl, who is currently ranked second in the country in points per game, had five goals and one assist to lead the Blue Devils.
Heather Ripp (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY) had nine saves for Marist, while Kristin Elliott had seven for Central Connecticut State.
The Red Foxes return to action on Friday, May 2nd, when they compete in the MAAC Tournament, which will be held on Leonidoff Field. Marist clinched the number four seed and will take on Fairfield, who secured the number one seed. The semifinal game is set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
