Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist College women's lacrosse team fell 11-7 to the LeMoyne Dolphins in their conference opener on Sunday at Leonidoff Field. The Red Foxes drop to 3-5 on the season, with a 0-1 record in the MAAC, while LeMoyne improves to 3-3, with a 1-0 record in the conference.
The Red Foxes struck early as Brandi Petersen (Syracuse, NY) scored at 28:52 in the first half, before LeMoyne answered with goals by Liz Hewitt and Tara Walberger to take the lead. Petersen scored again with 17:55 to play in the first half, but that was as close as the Red Foxes would get as the Dolphins maintained the lead throughout the remainder of the game.
Petersen led Marist with four goals, while Kelly Sullivan (Lindenhurst, NJ) added a goal and an assist. Maria Stehn (Massapequa, NY) and Maria Reoch (Shirley, NY) also tallied goals for the Red Foxes.
Marist goalkeeper Heather Ripp (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY) left the game due to an injury at the 14:49 mark in the first half, before Megan Sickler (Port Ewen, NY) took over in goal for the rest of the game and made eight saves.
Tara Walberger led LeMoyne with five goals and one assist, while Ashlyn McGuire added two goals. Brandy Payne made nine saves in goal for the Dolphins.
The Red Foxes return to action on Tuesday, April 8th, when they travel to Fairfield, CT to take on non-conference opponent Sacred Heart at 4:00 p.m.
