McGonagle Steps Down As Marist Women's Soccer And Lacrosse Coach

June 17, 2003

Poughkeepsie, NY - Marist College Director of Athletics, Tim Murray announced this afternoon that Megan McGonagle, has stepped down as the Red Foxes head women's soccer and lacrosse coach for personal reasons, effective June 30th.

"I am extremely grateful for the contributions that Megan made to Marist College during her tenure," said Murray. "I wish her the best of luck in all of her future endeavors."

McGonagle, who came to Marist in 1999, earned Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Coach of the Year honors twice during her tenure, in 2000 for lacrosse and then in 2001 for soccer. She led the soccer team to its first MAAC Regular Season Title in 2001 with an 8-1 league mark. In her first season as head coach of the lacrosse team, the Red Foxes also won the regular season crown. In three years as head coach, McGonagle led Marist to 21 wins and two MAAC Tournament appearances, including the 2001 title game.

In her final season with the Red Foxes, McGonagle engineered a berth in the MAAC Lacrosse Tournament final, after upsetting the top-seed, Fairfield, in the semifinals. In her four years as lacrosse coach, McGonagle led her team to the MAAC Tournament, and posted 27 wins.

A national search for a new soccer and lacrosse coach is underway.

Marist recently completed its sixth season as a full member of the 10-team, NCAA Division I MAAC. The Red Foxes have excelled both on the field and off, winning four MAAC Commissioners Cup Trophies, for overall athletic excellence, as well as perennially placing the most student-athletes on the MAAC All-Academic Teams.
