Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist College women's soccer team dropped their season opener to Hosftra 3-0 this afternoon.
Hofstra opened the scoring in the 13th minute in the first half when senior Elyse Bizzozzaro kicked in a pass from teammate Bree Best. Bizzozzaro netted a second goal at 30:17 on a breakaway.
The Pride added another goal in the second half at 51:20, when Charity Schmitt tallied her first goal of the year.
The Red Foxes were outshot 13-5 in the game. Their best scoring chance came with 7:52 left to play when senior Maria Reoch (Shirley, NY) drove within eight yards only to have her shot stopped by a diving Pride goalie Rebecca Wachsberger. Wachsberger had three saves on the day.
Freshman goalie Danielle Cibelli played well in the first half making four saves. Senior Meredith Fabian chipped in with her first save of the year, taking over in net in the second half.
Marist next game is on September 3rd when they travel to Central Connecticut State University to take on the Blue Devils.
