POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Sophomore
Gabby Tirado of the Marist University women's soccer team was named Jersey Mike's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Tirado accounted for seven points in Marist's conference victories over Sacred Heart and Niagara last week, with three goals and an assist.
Against Sacred Heart on Wednesday, Tirado scored the game-winner in the 85
th minute, which lifted the Red Foxes to a 2-1 triumph. She also recorded an assist on
Ella Bryan's goal in the 31
st minute, which opened the scoring. At Niagara on Saturday, Tirado scored a pair of goals. Her first tied the score at one in the 27th minute, and it came just 47 seconds after Niagara's opening tally. Her second came in the 68
th minute, and advanced Marist's lead to the match's final margin of 3-1.
Tirado leads Marist in goals (six), assists (four), and points (16) this season. She has scored a goal in four straight matches.
This is the first MAAC weekly award of Tirado's career, and it is the second earned by a Red Fox this season. The aforementioned Bryan won MAAC Rookie of the Week on Sept. 15.
Marist (4-5-2 overall, 3-0-2 MAAC), which is currently riding a six-match unbeaten streak, returns to action on Wednesday night at Fairfield. Kickoff is set for 7.
