NEWARK, DE - The Marist College baseball team dropped its second straight game to the Univesity of Delaware, falling 7-5 to the Blue Hens on Saturday. George Heath took the loss for Marist, as he tossed 7.2 innings, fanning nine Delaware batters in the effort.
Delaware broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth with the score
tied at one. Donovan followed a leadoff walk by junior Dave Harden with
his second home run of the season over the right field wall to give
Delaware a 3-1 lead. Buber, a transfer from Yuba City Community College
in California, increased the lead to 6-1 after a triple by freshman
Bryan Hagerich and a walk to junior Ed McDonnell.
Marist struck back for three runs in the top of the fifth on RBI singles
by Bryan Towler, Justin Lepore and Tyler Brock to cut the lead to 6-4.
The Hens tacked on a run in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single
from Rogers. Delaware sophomore Joe Coudon allowed one run in the ninth
before closing out the Red Foxes (2-9) to earn his second save in as
many days.
Brock, Towler and LePore all finished the afternoon with two base hits apiece. Brock led the team with two RBI, while LePore and Towler drove in a run each on the afternoon.
Junior Kelly Buber hit his first home run as a Blue Hens
and junior Brock Donovan added a solo home run as the University of
Delaware ran its winning streak to nine games with a 7-5 win over Marist
College Saturday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium.
The Blue Hens and Red Foxes close their three-game series tomorrow
afternoon at 1 p.m. at Bob Hannah Stadium.
