New Britain, CT - The Marist College women's lacrosse team earned a 9-4 decision against Central Connecticut this evening under the rain and lights at Arute Field. The Red Foxes improve to 3-6 on the season while the Blue Devils fall to 2-7 overall.
The Red Foxes jumped out to an early 4-0 lead with 22 minutes to play in the first half forcing Central to take a time out. The Red Foxes received its first goal from Tara Mullins just under six minutes into the game. Less than a minute later Lauren Sherman used a pass from Patricia Leahy to put Marist up by two.
Christine Connell and Lauren Serge scored the next two goals in less than a minute. The four Marist goals came in less than a two minute span. Coming out of the timeout the Blue Devils held the Red Fox scoreless for the next nine minutes before Serge broke the scoreless drought scoring with 12:52 to play.
Marist would take a 6-0 lead into the break with a second goal from Mullins with 3:24 to play in the half. Mullins and Serge led the Red Foxes in the first half each with two goals.
Both teams would remain scoreless for the first 19 minutes of the half until Maria Reoch scored on a free possession attempt with 11:49 to play in the game. Francesca DeLorenzo would add to the Marist lead, now at 8-0, with a goal with 7:14 remaining on the clock.
Central would get its first score of the night on an Abigail Hayes goal with six minutes to play. A second Blue Devils goal from Erin Sacharko with 3:54 to play would cut the lead to 8-2. Marist would answer with 1:30 on the scoreboard and a goal from Katie Tutak to add to the tally.
The Blue Devils scored two goals in the final 44 seconds. The first was with 44 seconds to play as Hayes drove to the net for the goal. Twenty-four second later Amy Clark scored her first goal of the game.
The Red Foxes are back in action on April 14th as they open Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at Siena. Marist returns home April 15th to wrapup the non-conference portion of their schedule as they host UC Davis at 4:00pm on Leonidoff Field.
