Loudonville, NY- The Marist College women's lacrosse team suffered a hard-fought loss to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) rival Siena 10-7 this afternoon in the conference opener. With the loss the Red Foxes fall to 3-7 overall and 0-1 in the MAAC, while the Saints improve to 3-10, 1-1 in the MAAC.
Marist got the scoring started at the 27:25 mark as Lauren Serge converted a free position shot. Siena countered as Michelle Eide scored two unanswered goals over the next seven minutes. Marist regained the lead at the 12:10 mark as senior Katie Tutak netter her first goal of the game to make the score 3-2.
The Saints did not go away, scoring two more unanswered goals. Not backing down, the Red Foxes went on a surge of their own as Christine Connell netted her second unassisted goal of the day to tie the score 4-4 with 3:02 left in the half. With :41 remaining, Maria Reoch connected with Lauren Sherman to pull ahead 5-4. The Saints would then tie the score as Eide tallied her third goal with :12 seconds on the clock.
Siena continued the scoring drive less than two minutes into the second half as Stephanie Petruccelli netted her first goal of the game. The Red Foxes responded with two unanswered goals by Tutak and Heather Kennedy to make the score 7-6. The tallies would prove to be the last of the day for Marist, as Siena tacked on four goals over the remaining 16:48 for the win.
Tutak finished the day with two goals and two draw controls, while Connell finished with two goals. Eide led Siena with five goals while Petruccelli finished with three.
Netminder Heather Ripp made 15 saves on the day as the Red Foxes were outshot 31-18.
The Red Foxes are back in action tomorrow, April 15th, as they host UC Davis at 4:00pm on Leonidoff Field to close the non-conference portion of their schedule.
