Poughkeepsie, NY- The Marist College women's lacrosse team its first home loss of the season falling to UC Davis 14-9 this afternoon on Leonidoff Field. With the loss, the Red Foxes drop to 3-8 on the season, while UC Davis improves to 7-3.
The Aggies came out firing as Megan O'Connor tallied a goal just 45 seconds into the game. UC Davis extended their lead to 4-0 at the 17:09 mark as freshman Katie McMahon scored her last of three unanswered goals over a five-minute span. The Aggies would score two more goals before Christine Connell got Marist on the board at 5:20.
The Red Foxes went on a run of their own to close the first half, pulling within 6-3 with :55 seconds remaining as Lauren Sherman connected with Maria Reoch for her tenth goal of the season.
The two teams exchanged goals to open the second half but UC Davis pulled away by scoring seven unanswered goals over the next 12 minutes to make the score 14-5. The last goal of that streak scored by Leslie Kado, would prove to be the last Aggie tally of the game as Marist would hold them scoreless for the next final 8:11.
The Red Foxes did not back down as senior Katie Tutak sparked a late run, notching two goals and an assist in the last four minutes of play.
Tutak led Marist with three goals and an assist, while Lauren Serge tallied two goals and scooped up six ground balls. McMahon scored a game-high five goals for the Aggies while registering six ground balls and five draw controls. O'Connor also had three goals for the Aggies.
Netminder Heather Ripp made 10 saves as the Red Foxes were outshot 38-24. Kristen Braasch made nine saves for the Aggies.
The Red Foxes have a busy weekend as they host Fairfield on Saturday, April 17th at 1:00pm on Leonidoff Field followed by a Senior Day match-up against Manhattan at 1:00pm.
