Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist College women's lacrosse team, behind the efforts of its senior class, earned a 10-9 overtime win over visiting Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Lacrosse League rival Manhattan, this afternoon on Leonidoff Field.
The Red Fox senior class was honored prior to their final game on Leonidoff Field, and made it a memorable experience. Senior Maria Reoch tallied a game-high four goals in her final home game, including the game-tying goal with 24 seconds remaining in regulation. Classmate Katie Tutak, who tallied a pair of goals, scored the game-winner with 20 seconds left in the first half of the overtime.
Marist (4-8; 2-1) jumped on top with early goals from Reoch and Tutak, and lead 3-1 with 17:10 to play in the first half when senior Taylor Conger tallied a goal. The teams would both score twice more in the half, and Marist took a 5-3 lead into the intermission.
Manhattan (8-6; 3-2) opened the second half with two quick goals, tying the score 5-5 4:05 into the half. After Reoch gave the Red Foxes a 6-5 lead, 90 seconds later, Manhattan tallied three unanswered goals in a 5:00 span to take an 8-6 lead. Lauren Serge made the score 8-7 with 12:08 to play, and the Jaspers tallied their final goal of the game with 6:49 to play to take a 9-7 advantage. Lauren Sherman, who also had two assists, scored with 4:43 to play, setting up the heroics of the seniors.
Heather Ripp made 11 saves to earn the win, six in the second half and stopped the only shot she faced in the overtime periods. Ashley Devins made 12 saves, none in overtime, in taking the loss for the Jaspers.
Marist outshot the Jaspers 28-26 on the day and had fewer turnovers (13) then the visitor (20).
Reoch also added an assist, for five points in the game, and had three caused turnovers, and number equaled by Tutak.
Marist returns to action on Wednesday, April 21st, when it travels to Syracuse, NY for a MAAC Lacrosse League game with LeMoyne.
