Box Score

BURLINGTON, Vt. - Eric Johnson's two-run 10th inning double lifted Marist (18-21) to a 4-1 over Vermont (11-20)in college baseball at sunny Centennial Field on Wednesday afternoon.

After the Red Foxes loaded the bases with no outs in the extra frame, Johnson lined a Chris Marsh offering to the right center field gap scored Tyler Brock and Jimmy Board. After a strikeout Travis Musolf added an insurance run, plating Chris Watters, with a single to left field.

Johnson's double was the only extra base hit in the well-pitched game by both sides. Marist pitching allowed just four hits, all singles, while Vermont hurlers allowed eight hits, four in the 10th inning, with seven singles.

Jonathan Smith made the start for Marist, and things did not look rosy for the Red Foxes in the first frame. After Smith fanned the leadoff batter, He gave up a single and a walk, and then an error loaded the bases. Smith induced a fly ball for the second out, but it allowed a run to score, giving the Catamounts a 1-0 lead. Smith got the next batter to ground into a fielders choice for the final out, and was nearly perfect the rest of the way. He earned a no decision, pitching 6.0 innings, allowing four hits and the one unearned run. He fanned four and walked two.

Lucas Robinson pitched one inning, facing four batters, but not allowing the hit. Erik Supplee earned the win for Marist, tossing three-hitless innings, while fanning a pair. Supplee improved to 3-0 with the win.

Marist tied it in the fifth off Jared Slater (2 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO) as Andy Kiriakedes led-off with a single and came around on a sacrifice fly by Brian Towler.

Board finished the outing 2-3 with a run scored, while Johnson was 1-4 with the two RBI. Musolf was 1-4 with an RBI and Towler went 1-2 with an RBI. Watters was 1-4 with a run scored as well.
