Army Out Slugs Red Foxes 15-14 In Baseball Game With Hudson Valley Rival.

West Point, NY -- The Marist College baseball team fell one run short in an offensive slug out versus Hudson Valley rival Army, dropping a 15-14 decision this afternoon at West Point.

Army hopped on Marist starter Jonathan Smith early, putting up four runs in the first and building an 8-3 lead after three innings. Marist tallied a run in the fourth and then took the lead for the first time with a six-run fifth inning. Army answered with five in the bottom of the fifth to take a 13-10 lead. The Red Foxes answered with two in the seventh and took the lead with a pair more in the ninth 14-13. Army won the game on a one-out homer in the bottom of the ninth.

Keith Brachold continued to swing the bat well, going 4-6 with three runs and two RBI. He had a pair of doubles for Marist in the game. Bryan Towler and Tyler Brock both homered for Marist, Towler finishing 2-4 with three RBI and Brock finishing 2-6 with two RBI. Kevin Buck was 2-6 with a double and two RBI, as well as a run scored. Jimmy Board was 3-6 with two runs scored as well for Marist.

Rob Ryan was charged with the loss, falling to 0-2, as he recorded 0.1 innings of work, walking one and allowing one hit; a two-run homer. Marist hurlers fanned three and walked four, while Army pitching combined to strike-out 13 batters, while walking three. Marist had three errors, while Army committed four miscues.

Marist falls to 8-17 on the year, while Army improves to 19-9 and are the winners of nine straight games. The Red Foxes return to action on Saturday when they return to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play, hosting a double-header versus Manhattan. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
