Women's Lacrosse Edges Vermont 7-5

The Marist College women's lacrosse won its second-straight game edging Vermont 7-5 in a back-and-forth battle this afternoon at Leonidoff Field. With the win, the Red Foxes improve to 2-5 on the season.

The Red Foxes scored three unanswered goals in the final 20 minutes of the game while turning up the defensive pressure to secure the victory. Down 5-4 with 19:07 left to play, Lauren Sherman connected with Katie Tutak to tie the game. Christine Connell put the Red Foxes ahead 6-5 at 11:08, scoring her second goal of the day on a free position shot after a Catamount foul. Lauren Serge added an insurance goal with 8:10 to go converting a free position shot.

Marist opened the scoring 17 seconds into the game as Sherman stuffed a Serge pass in the back of the net. The Red Foxes took a 2-0 lead at the 21:29 mark on a Taylor Conger goal.

The Catamounts answered with two goals of their own by Vanessa Cox at the 9:05 mark and by Mary Medvedkov with 7:26 left in the first period. The stalemate did not last long as senior captain Maria Reoch netted an unassisted goal 21 seconds later. Vermont tied the game just under a minute later as Cox tallied her second goal of the game and pulled ahead 4-3 as Cox connected with Katie Sobocinski.

Sherman and Serge each finished with a goal and an assist, while Reoch had a solid day tallying a goal, scooping up five ground balls and causing three turnovers. Francesca DeLorenzo also collected five ground balls.

Junior Heather Ripp and Vermont's Kate McBride each made eight saves in the cage.

The Red Foxes return to action on Saturday, April 10th as they travel to Sacred Heart for a 10:00am start.
