Red Foxes Have League High Seven Named To MAAC All-Academic Team

Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist College lacrosse team continued to pick up accolades for its successful 2004 campaign. The Red Foxes had seven student-athletes named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) All-Academic Team, which was announced during play at last weekends MAAC Tournament.

Patrick Bean (Centerport, NY), William Dziedzic (Southington, CT), Robert Hobson (Old Bridge, NJ), Brendan Morris (Montville, NJ), Jay Nahama (Hampton, NJ), James Taylor (Northport, NY) and Pat Van Horne (Liverpool, NY) all earned MAAC All-Academic Team accolades. The seven Red Foxes tied for the most of any of the nine schools in the MAAC Lacrosse League.

To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student athlete must complete two semesters at their institution, be a significant starter or reserve and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale. Marist, along with Manhattan, led all schools with seven members each named to the team. VMI added six members to the squad. Providence College had five student-athletes, while Canisius College, Siena College and Wagner College all had four apiece. Saint Joseph's University rounded out the team with one athlete.

Dziedzic, a Business major, and Nahama, a Pyschology/Special Education major, were the two seniors named to the team. The junior class had three members recognized with Taylor and Van Horne, both International Business and Finance Majors, and Hobson, a Business major, representing that class. The sophomore class had two selected to the team, in Bean and Morris, both Environmental Science Majors.

Marist had one of the most successful seasons in program history, finishing the year at 10-7 overall and 8-0 in MAAC play. The Red Foxes earned their first-ever MAAC Regular Season Title, and the 10 wins was the most since the 1986 squad posted a program-best 12-2 mark.
