POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Villanova University earned a 9-5 victory over Marist College in the consolation game of the 2004 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women's Water Polo Championship, held at Marist's McCann Natatorium.
Villanova had a 3-2 lead after the first quarter, with a pair of goals from Ellen Howe and one from Kim Pare. The Wildcats then jumped out to a 6-2 lead by halftime, including three more goals from Pare.
Marist cut Villanova's lead to three (7-4) by the end third quarter as Alyson Fiorillo and Carolyn Rosler tallied one goal apiece for the Red Foxes. The Wildcats, however, went to outscore their host, 2-1, in the final stanza to claim the win, including a goal by Danielle Hanson at the buzzer.
Jess Wells made one save in goal for Villanova. Amanda Long registered 11 stops between the pipes for Marist.
