MILTON, N.Y.- The Marist Men's Soccer team traveled to the Hudson Valley SportsDome on Friday night and dropped a 1-0 decision to MAAC foe Loyola. Ray Hassett scored on a rebound off a Vinnie Piscopo shot in the 21st minute for the only goal of the match. With the loss Marist fell to 3-7-1 overall and 1-2 in the MAAC, while Loyola improved to 5-6-1 and remained perfect in conference play with a 3-0 mark.
Freshman goalkeeper Marcelo del Rio got the nod for Marist in net and made three saves and allowed just the one goal. Loyola net minder Justin Chelland stopped two Red Foxes shots for the shutout. His biggest stop of the night came with just five seconds remaining in the match. Steve Fantuzzo ripped a shot from outside the 18-yard box that Chelland was able to tip just over the crossbar.
Loyola tallied when Piscopo threw a shot at Del Rio who made the initial save. He left a rebound loose however and Hassett was there to bang it home.
Marist was out shot in the match 9-6, but held the advantage in corner kicks 4-0.
Marist will have a day off on Saturday until they travel back to the dome to take on MAAC rival Rider. They will look to square their record at 2-2 against the Broncs. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Milton.
