Red Foxes Beaten By Oregon, 19-11

EUGENE, Or.-The University of Oregon women's lacrosse team made history Friday evening with its first win in school history, a 19-11 decision over Marist at home at Pape' Field.

The win raised Oregon's record to 1-5 on the season, while Marist dropped to 1-2.

Oregon got out quickly with a 3-0 run to start the game, initiated by a goal in the first minute by freshman attacker Erin Gaebe (00:51). Freshman midfielder Jen May followed with two of her game-high five goals at 5:23 and 5:55, as UO ended the first half with an 11-4 lead.

In the second half, Oregon weathered a 3-1 run by Marist early in the opening seven minutes of play, and the Red Foxes added a final 3-0 response in a four-minute burst from the 45th to 50 minutes. Oregon stymied any lasting challenges with a pair of 3-0 runs of their own that started in the 42nd and 58th minutes, and owned an 8-7 scoring edge in the second half.

May tallied her five goals on six shots, while four other Ducks claimed multiple goals - freshman attacker Lindsay Killian (3 goals, 1 assist, 4 shots, 3 shots on goal), freshman attacker Jana Bradley (3 goals, 1 assist, 4 shots, 4 shots on goal), Gaebe (2 goals, 1 assist, 4 shots, 3 shots on goal) and freshman defender Cara Mead (2 goals, 2 shots, 2 shots on goal).

UO senior goalkeeper Louisa Dorsch started the game and played 43 minutes, allowed four goals, faced 10 shots, and came up with four saves. Freshman back-up Allison O'Brien started the first 17 minutes of the second half and allowed seven goals, faced 14 shots and came up with three saves.

For Marist, the pair of Lindsey Diener and Lauren Serge each scored two goals, and tallied a team-high three shots. In goal, Heather Ripp played all 60:00 and faced 34 shots and came up with six saves.

Marist will next face St. Mary's on Tuesday, March 22nd at 3:30 p.m.
